Curcumin: Spice Up Your Life! (Update) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dr. Edward Zimmer

tumericCurcumin is a component of the spice Tumeric which is in the ginger family of herbs. Tumeric is what gives curry powder its characteristic yellow color. This wonderful God-given spice provides a powerful healthy punch for your body!

Curcumin is a strong anti-oxidant (read What is an Anti-oxidant in this Health Zinger issue), it protects the liver, has anti-inflammatory effects similar to ibuprofen or aspirin, is anti-bacterial/parasitic/fungal, and has anti-cancer properties.

Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, curcumin may help those with arthritis or those who have a history of cardiovascular disease. Its antioxidant properties make it a great choice for brain, cardiovascular and liver protection.

Curcumin is very safe at the recommended dose of between 400 – 1,200 mg/day. Those on blood thinning therapy should take curcumin only while monitoring their condition closely.
