Your Headaches Could Be Coming From the Neck! (Update) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dr. Edward Zimmer
Many people suffer from headaches on a regular basis. I am amazed at how many people take Advil®, Motrin®, aspirin, Aleve®, Excedrin®, or Tylenol® more than three times a week to help with headache pain. I guess my amazement stems from the fact that these people accept this as normal for them and they just keep on without worrying about the fact that their body is trying to tell them that something is wrong.

It is not uncommon to chalk headaches up to stress and since stress is a part of the American way there is little to be done. Right? Wrong!

It is true that headaches can commonly be caused by many factors including poor nutrition, allergies, food sensitivities, prescription drug side-effects, or muscle tension. Also, headaches can manifest themselves in different locations like behind the eyes, in the temples, on the forehead, or the back of the head. If your headaches are of the forehead or back of the head nature, they very well may be originating in your upper neck. This is an area that is NEVER assessed by doctors. Those who have gone for medical help can attest to the fact that no one ever poked around the back of their neck to determine if this could be the cause of their headaches.

There is no health professional more qualified to evaluate this potential than a Chiropractor. Chiropractors can easily assess the movement, or lack thereof, in your upper neck to determine whether or not this may be a contributing or causative factor for your headaches. Many people have gotten rid of their headaches thanks to proper chiropractic care. The word proper is the key. Read Dr. Zimmer’s article Chiropractic Care: Does it make sense for more information.
