Many people have never even heard of L-theanine. Now you are one of the lucky ones. L-Theanine is a unique amino acid found in green tea. It was discovered in Japan in 1949 and was approved there as a food additive in 1964.
L-theanine increases alpha-brain waves which means it induces relaxation! It is unclear exactly how this works but some studies have shown L-theanine to increase brain serotonin (your mood elevating neurotransmitter). Also, L-theanine may counteract the stimilartory effects of caffeine and is the reason why most do not get caffeine jitters from grean tea. In addition, L-theanine has been investigated as a cancer tumor inhibitor. It seems that L-theanine increases the effectiveness of chemotherapy while protecting normal cells at the same time.
If you do not drink green tea, start tomorrow morning. If you want help with anxiety or stress, try supplementing with L-theanine.
