Here is the interesting study of the month. I realize that this is not monumental information, but I thought it was kind of a fun fact.
A study done by the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Natural Products in The Hebrew University Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel has shown that beer contains active antioxidants that may in fact provide some benefit for some people. Forty-two male non-drinkers with high cholesterol were randomly divided into two groups. One group was given the equivalent of one beer a day for 30 days. This group had significant reductions in blood cholesterol and increases in blood antioxidant levels. Who would have thought?
Notice that the study only allowed one beer a day. Like wine, the take home message is that a little may actually be of benefit while a lot can damage your health in a number of ways. Cheers!
